The daughter of a wealthy bandit, Sophia Dawson once lost herself in the arms of Black Hawk, the most infamous pirate ever to command the high seas. But now, determined to put her sinful past behind her, she prepares to enter society as the bride of a well-born nobleman who knows nothing of her scandalous youth. All goes according to plan until her ex-lover-now a respectable sea captain but just as handsome and dangerous as ever-appears and once more tempts her with desire.

From the moment he sees Sophia again, James Hawkins wants only one thing: revenge. He'll see to it that the reckless beauty pays for abandoning their heated affair. And so begins a battle of wills that can only end in utter ruin . . . or wicked surrender . . .

behind the story

The Hawkins brothers first appeared as secondary characters in my sophomore release TOO GREAT A TEMPTATION. I created the brigands as foils to the protagonists goals, and I intended their tale to end with the book. However, the feedback from readers and critics alike convinced me there was more to the Hawkins brothers than just supporting-character material, that the bad-boy brigands had hero potential. And so, with that thought in mind, I reunited with the sexy pirates in a new series. First up is THE INFAMOUS ROGUE. And it features one of my favourite themes: the reunion romance.

For me, the main appeal of a reunion romance is the prospect of getting a second chance at love. Have you ever wondered "if only ...?" or "I wish I had known then what I know now"? Time and experience seasons us and the reunion romance offers characters the opportunity to right past wrongs. That's the case with Captain James Hawkins and sassy Sophia Dawson. Seven years ago, the lovers parted ways, but soon the couple learn old passions still burn ... and there might be hope for their tempestuous love affair, after all.

THE INFAMOUS ROGUE is the series starter in The Hawkins Brothers saga. If you'd like to read the other books in the series, the order is:

"Nominated for Best Historical Romantic Adventure 2009 by Romantic Times BOOKreviews!"
-Romantic Times BOOKreviews, February 2010

"Deft plotting with biting repartee makes The Infamous Rogue a superb read."
-Susan Wilson, Fresh Fiction Reviews

"The Infamous Rogue is the kind of book that, once read, begs to be read again! It is sheer fun, pure romance, and a prime example of why I enjoy historicals of this period so much. Filled with lots of vivid images and dialogue that screams of the time, the story of Black Hawk and the woman whose heart he claims comes brilliantly to life ... I loved this book. Espionage, rowdy seamen and buxom barmaids, convoluted webs of intrigue, and, woven tightly throughout, a romance as ageless and sincere as any I've read in a long time, kept me captivated. I heartily recommend The Infamous Rogue!"
-Kay James, Romance Reader at Heart

"[A] wonderful novel that is assured to be deemed one of the best historical novels of 2009. Very highly recommended."
-Suzie Housley, MyShelf.com

"The sexy, intriguing pirates Benedict introduced in Too Great a Temptation return as the heroes of their own series. But men like these need heroines to match, and Benedict has created a smart and sassy spitfire of a woman to add spice and heat to a tale filled with biting repartee and passionate drama. You'll relish this lively high-seas romp."
- Kathe Robin, Romantic Times BOOKreviews, 4.5 stars!
